“My role in society, or any artist’s or poet’s role, is to try and express what we all feel. Not to tell people how to feel. Not as a preacher, not as a leader, but as a reflection of us all.”
I think in this day and age we can all use a little John Lennon in the world. I wish it could be as easy as saying, “let’s just have more peace and no war.” But it’s not that simple. As I was painting John Lennon’s image and listening to his music so many different emotions went through me…happiness, sadness, anger, remorse, joy, peace. I read a little bit about him too and what an amazing person he was and how easily he was killed, for no good reason. He was just a man expressing himself through music. Painting is a form of therapy for me, every brush stroke brings me a sense of well being. Every person should have an outlet on how to express themselves, whether it is through dance, music, art, writing, photography or speaking. It doesn’t matter as long it is in a positive manner.
I have been reading the book “Living the Wisdom of the Tao” by Dr. Wayne Dyer and a quote I found in there that really resonated with me goes like this “The most talented artists dance softly, without effort; paint quietly, without force; and write easily, without struggle, by allowing the words to come to them. As Lao-tzu reminds you, these are rare beings who live the master’s way. These sages “obtain the bounty of this world,” which is available to you, too.” We all have the ability to do all those things but it’s only when we really want it that it will come to us. What does your heart desire? How does your soul want to express itself?
